Peace Vigil
We meet each Saturday at noon at the corner of 1st Avenue and Collins Road in Cedar Rapids. Come and bring your signs for peace! If you see us while you’re out and about, be sure to give a honk for peace.

Women for Peace Monthly General Membership Meeting
Every fourth Tuesday (with the exception of June and December) at the Busse Viewing Room, Busse Library of Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids at 7 p.m. Newcomers are welcome. Membership is open to both women and men.

Education/Action Committee
Every 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Busse Library, Mount Mercy College, Study Room 1. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are encouraged not to extend past 9 p.m.

Women for Peace Knitters
Supporting the peaceful arts of knitting and crocheting. This group meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Prairiewoods, 120 E Boyson Rd, Hiawatha; and the 4th Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m. at Marion Public Library, Marion. For more information call 377-3252.

MARCH EVENTS

“Five Years Too Many”

Women for Peace Iowa will mark the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War
with a protest rally at the offices of Senator Tom Harkin and
Congressman Dave Loebsack.
Wednesday, March 19th
Street demonstration from Noon-1 PM
150 First Ave NE
Downtown Cedar Rapids

The street protest, complete with a full-size flag-draped coffin, will
illustrate to the public the human cost of war. Simultaneously during
the noon hour, hundreds of miniature folded paper coffins will be
delivered to the offices of the legislators.
It is the intention of Women for Peace Iowa to make a strong visual
statement to our legislators, reminding them that they have the power
to keep their promises to end this indefensible war by stopping its
funding and bringing our troops home safely and quickly.
(*Participants are urged to arrive early, 11:45 PM, in order
that we might be organized by Noon for purposes of press-coverage. We
encourage you to dress in black or wear a black arm-band.)

4,000th Death Commemoration

Women for Peace Iowa will mark this very regrettable milestone
and honor ALL the casualties in this war with:
A Solemn Candlelight Vigil
7 PM, the evening AFTER the 4,000th death is announced
Gather at the Tree of Five Seasons for songs and an open-mike.
First St. and First Ave. SE
We will later spread out across the First Ave. Bridge for a
silent vigil.

    I just received information about this from a classmate of mine from grade & high school. Her daughter is the Midwest rep for this. Her daughter’s name is Sara Imhof. She might be a good contact for a speaker. It also could be a possibility for some collaboration.
